NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

Non-destructive testing (NDT) examines components and assemblies for quality flaws in order to ensure operational readiness and prevent hazards during operation.

The application of non-destructive testing methods is concerned with establishing and revealing defects without impacting or altering the test object in any way. The functionality of a component is inspected for internal inclusions, cavities or fractures as well as loosening and open pores on the surface.

As a DIN 272501-7 certified company, OWS is able to perform non-destructive verification of a material using surface-oriented testing techniques (eddy-current testing, magnetic particle testing and dye-penetration testing) as well as volume-oriented testing techniques (x-ray testing and ultrasonic testing). Various testing techniques can also be combined, if necessary, to achieve sufficient test performance.

Based on experience, we know that non-destructive testing is currently a very specific topic in the railway industry due to the wide variety of vehicles. Our highly-trained employees are happy to assist customers in developing inspection instructions. It also goes without saying that test plans and test reports are an inherent part of quality assurance. Our testers and test supervisors as well as our inspection procedures are also available to our customers off-site.


As a certified workshop performing non-destructive testing on vehicles and their components in the rail vehicle maintenance sector, we provide the following inspection procedures:

PENETRATION TESTING (PT)

MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING (MT)

of wheelset axles, wheels, weld seams on bogies and vehicle frames, components

MANUAL ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT)

of wheelset axles (fault detection), wheels (fault detection), weld seams on bogies and vehicle frames, components

MANUAL EDDY-DURRENT TESTING (ET)

of wheels, weld seams on vehicle frames, components
